The Blog is Now on Substack!
I am so excited to be moving all future blog content over to my new Substack The Mindful Middle. Substack gives us all a chance to really connect, go deeper into all the topics that light me up and create a community where we can grow together. If you’ve been on this journey since The Lemon Tribe or even You Have Me at Hello (college throwback!), you’ll now that writing is one of my biggest joys. Sharing my life, my learnings, learning from all of you and processing it through writing is my ultimate flow state and Substack is a place where creators can come to do just that, expanding their audiences through discovery. All of my past blog posts will stay right here if you want to refer back to any of them but for any future content, head on over to Substack and join our community!
Here is what you can expect from The Mindful Middle - an excerpt from my first post:
The Mindful Middle is a place to explore finding the balance in life and getting a little messy along the way. If you found your way here through my meditations, health coaching, or website, welcome to our new little corner of the internet. If you’re new here, I’m Sarah. Health coach, meditation teacher, and woman consistently trying to find balance in my life. If you’re looking for a little balance too, then The Mindful Middle is for you.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a rabid consumer of knowledge and a questioner of the status quo. I was kicked out of Hebrew school for asking too many questions about biblical stories. At 15, when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and in and out of hospitals with doctors who said I wouldn’t recover, I became a scholar of every modality possible - meditation, hypnosis, acupuncture, nutrition, exposure therapy and more- to get myself out of the nightmare I was living in and it worked. I put my autoimmune disorder in remission from educating myself and questioning everything. I’ve been a healthcare strategist for over a decade working with some of the top western medicine brands in the world and yet I fiercely believe in eastern and ancient healing techniques in partnership with modern medicine. Across all of it, I’ve continued to seek out an in between place, a space that avoids extremes and sits on common ground.
Beyond my own life experiences, I’ve noticed that this in between place has become much rarer. I’m exhausted by influencers who scream from the rooftops that there’s only one way to heal yourself and I’m saddened by the judgement I see from people who lambast everything from protein rich diets and veganism to stay-at-home motherhood and paternal leave. It’s all so extreme in the name of clicks or an extra dollar but where does that leave us consumers of content and knowledge? If we dive toward extremes in desperate hope of a more regulated nervous system or a true community or a quick chronic illness fix only to end up disappointed that the extreme didn’t work, then how is that serving us? How do extremes support those of us who need time, space and a middle ground to really think about what’s best for us without judgement or pressure? I am known to be a kumbaya queen but can’t we all just find a bit more kindness and middle ground with each other? Can’t we seek that middle road we can walk along together, even if we disagree sometimes? I guarantee you it’ll be better for our health, wellbeing and relationships.
I guess what I’m saying is that I believe there is a mindful middle to most things in life. At a time when everything feels polarized and at extremes, it feels like a weirdly rebellious act to find the balance where shades of gray are invited to play.
So our needs are different, of course. But, I hope that with The Mindful Middle we can all be invited to play with those shades of gray. To explore concepts together in mindfulness, wellness, sustainability, pop culture and more. To question the status quo. To become conscious consumers of knowledge. To inspire, support, and champion each other and ultimately, hang out in the mindful middle together for awhile.
Welcome to The Mindful Middle. I’m so happy you’re here.
Thank you for going on this journey with me and I hope to see you over on Substack!
